So I think I had a case of Acid Reflux today; I felt like there was some sort of acid in the back of my throat, and now it feels like there’s something ‘caught’ in my throat, which I read were all symptoms of acid reflux. I’m a teenager, and this is my first time ever experiencing this. I’ve never had problems like this before, and I was just wondering if this kind of thing can happen randomly just once, or does it continue on forever?
Thanks!
It can be somthing that happens here and there if you have a minor case of it. It can also be a very persistant full Blown Disease if it is a severe case.
I am not a doctor, so either way you will want to talk to them, but this is what I have to say as a long time sufferer of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.)!
Three part answer: information, what not to do, and what to do!
INFORMATION!!!!!!
I have a very severe case of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.). I have had to go to the hospital for some of the heartburn that I have had because the pain can become overwhelming or your breathing can be effected. It can be caused by Smoking, Drinking Beverages with caffeine (My case with hereditary), Drinking Beverages with Alcohol, Stress, Anxiety or can be Hereditary
The good thing about G.E.R.D. is that it can be a temporary thing and can be cured. It is never a permit thing even if you end up with it for the rest of your life it has the ability to be cured.
G.E.R.D. is caused by too much acid being created in your stomach. This can lead to or cause ulcers, esophagus damage, heartburn and/or damage in the mouth. . Other symptoms that can be found in a few cases are dizziness, tingling in limbs, numbness of Limbs, Chest/Back pain focused on the left side (in most cases), and shortness/difficulty breathing.
WHAT NOT TO DO!!!!!!!!
In most cases, stress is a factor to the reflux if you watch what you eat and reduce some of the stress it will help. If you watch what you eat for about a week you should find relief, if you do not then that is when you definitely what to listen to the doctor. Things to watch for are as follows:
Fatty Foods
Citrus Foods
Oranges (Juice and fruit)
Lemon (Juice and fruit)
Foods That Contain Grease
Fried Foods
Potatoes (Starch)
Buffalo wings
Chocolate (including any Coco)
Caffeine
Smoking
Alcohol
Doughnuts
Brownies
Cake
Tomato Based Products
Lactose
Sour Cream
Cottage Cheese
High amounts of Carbohydrates
Roughage (Berries and Nuts)
Onions
WHAT TO DO!!!!
The two foods that I recommend is Black strap Molasses and Raw honey. The apple is better for night time reflux while these will work for just about all of it. What you will do is take about a tsp. of whatever one you chose. Molasses being the better because of strength and nutrition, but must be use to the taste. What the substance will do is stick to the sides of the esophagus and do two things, one is heal and the other is protect.
On the healing end, both substances have a healing property in them, and as they sit on the walls of the esophagus they will heal it. This is also helpful if you have a sore throat in the morning from refluxing.
On the protection end, both substances are high in sugar and when acid that is refluxed comes up to that the sugar will neutralize it and it will not longer be a problem at that point.
I would also look to putting Cinnamon and Ginger in you diet, they have been know to help with digestion and will help you reduce the amount of acid needed to brake down food, therefore causing you to reflux less.

Everyone experiences it at one time or another. It could have been something you ate or a number of causes. Just one time isn’t anything to worry about.

Here you go- it all depends on stress, your diet and a whole bunch of other things.

Some people experience these symptoms from time to time depending on foods, eating patterns etc but don’t experience any frequent spells or long term consequences.
Given your age and that this is the first time, you are safe to watch and wait. If it becomes more frequent you could change your diet (avoid spicy foods, caffeine, chocolate, eating large meals just before bed etc.) and many effective medications are also available.

You ate too much – that’s all. Don’t fall for all the BS about this like it’s a disease or something. The medical establishment wants everyone on drugs all the time so they want you to think you always have something wrong with you. Just don’t eat as much and it won’t happen. But here’s a much better site to learn about all health related issues. http://www.naturalnews.com/022840.html

Generally it is to be expected. If it becomes persistent, you need to see a doctor.
Recurrent acid reflux in a youg person is usually because either you are not taking in enough clear water or too much spice and fat in the diet. The next big cause is a bacteria called H-Pylori that attacks the stomach lining. If you are getting enough clear water in your daily diet, and it reccurs, your doctor can have a simple blood test done for the bacteria and is it easily treatable. Chronic acid reflux and/or indigestion is almost never stress related in a younger person, and is 87.3% H-pylori according to the latest studies.

If you have the sensation of something "caught" in your throat you might have LPR. (Laryngopharyngeal Reflux)
I have the same thing going on right now. It affects my vocal vords and I am hoarse all the time and I have trouble breathing and swallowing (even water). I had a scope done down my throat and a hiatal hernia was found. Many people with reflux have hiatal hernia’s. I have been on 3 different prescription acid reducers and none of them are helping much but now I’m on Nexium and its only helping a little. I cant eat choclate, fatty foods, soda or diary or any of the good stuff I like just because of this stupid reflux!
Get to your doctor and get a scope done to see whats wrong and to get the right meds. I wish you luck!
